Intracranial hemangiopericytoma: diagnosis, treatment and outcome.

Hemangiopericytomas (HpCs) are rare me senchymal tu mors that may arise in the head and neck, trunk, skin, retroperitoneum and oral cav ity. In the cen tral ner vous sys tem, HPC is a highly cel lu lar and vas cu lar tu mor which is in dis tin guish able histo logically from sim i lar le sions oc cur ring in the pe riph eral soft tis sues. In this is sue, Dr. Hsi-Kai Tsou and his co-authors re port 2 of 3 (66.7%) and 1 of 3 (33.3%) intracranial HPC pa tients had lo cal re cur rence and intracranial me tas ta sis, re spec tively, in a rel a tively short pe riod af ter sur gery. Ag gres sive growth, ten dency to lo cal re cur rence and rel a tively fre quent metastases are the clin i cal fea tures of the tu mors.
